Football is a game
of all sorts. It is the most popular sport globally, and perhaps the most competitive.
It is the use of the word perhaps that should be noted, as most sports tend to
be competitive. It is also imperative to note that football has undergone a lot
of evolution over time. Some tournaments have been organized at various levels,
and they are all aimed at developing the tradition of the sport. It is believed
that football was founded in England, and this could explain why the country
has the most successful premier leagues globally.
A historical
analysis of the game shows that it did not start with the civility and decorum
that the modern sport has come to be associated with. In fact, in the early
days, the sport was violent, and it was not until 1863 that the rules of the
game were developed, and the people had to adhere to these aspects. Ever heard
of the mob football? It is one of the earliest forms of football, with people
taking to the field, and then playing with such vagueness because of the
ambiguity of the rules. It is as if the people were playing the gladiator game,
in which the rules do not apply.
There have been
legends that have been developed to try and give an origin of football, but one
of the most prominent is the Danish legend that football came as a form of
celebration after the Danes had defeated the Romans in a battle. For those who
have a historical foundation, they understand that the Romans were one of the
most powerful nations and if football could be an expression of this happiness,
what a way to start a sport.
There have been
other changes that have been observed such as the size of the pitch, and the
significance of the football game. Traditionally, the people or the footballers
who were involved would view the ball as the sun, which was a sense of strength
and conquering, while some believed that it playing would make them fertile.
All these aspects can be termed as absurd in the current world structure of
understanding football, and indeed any other sport, but this is just the
beginning. Other superstitions have been associated with soccer and perhaps
helped make the sport popular.
